World’s Record For Long-Lasting Battery

On 24 May 2008 Panasonic demonstrated their long-lasting battery product to stunt their consumers. The demonstration took place in Grand Canyon where a little robot powered by a pair of Evoltas should climb a rope that hanging on one of Grand Canyon cliff. The rope hanged about 530 meter from bottom to the top of the cliff and remarkably the 17cm tall and 130 gram robot successfully climbed the rope in six hours and 45 minutes. This huge-achievement from Panasonic’s little robot powered by EVOLTA AA battery was recognized by Guinness Book of World Records by awarding this long-lasting battery as the longest-lasting battery in the world.

NASA’s Opportunity Twin Brother Spirit Mars Rover

As part of MER (Mars Exploration Rovers) Spirit rover robot landed on Mars in 2004. Spirit is twin brother of another Mars rover robot Opportunity. Unfortunately, Spirit had some trouble in gaining the mission. Spirit was trapped on sand trap and got some trouble as the robot did not work as there is limited solar power. The teams has not heard anything from Spirit because of those troubles. Spirit was sent to Mars in order to go on mission to find a clue about past water activities on Mars. The period of time to do the mission was three months before NASA continued to operate the robot for about six years.

Digesting Photo Taking Duck by Taeyoon Choi

It seems that this robot inspired by the famous Digesting Duck. This robot is designed by new media and performance artist Taeyoon Choi. Taeyoon Choi designed this digesting photo taking duck with the ability to take photograph, print the photograph, and with WiFi connection the robot is able to display the photo. In taking the photograph the digesting photo taking duck uses a sensing flash of light that installed on its eye. After it took photograph the printer installed inside its body could process the result directly. Amazingly this digesting photo taking duck is able to upload photo to Flickr with the WiFi connection equipped on it.
