CT Arm Designed Like An Elephant’s Trunk

Hirose Fukushima Robotics Lab in 1990 to 1993 developed arm robotic that designed to conduct such complex machinery operation like handling nuclear reactor. They thought that to do such complex operation it should take a special robot arm. This arm robot should be able to move freely and change it shapes like what elephant has their trunk. The construction of trunk-like arm robot takes actuator that able to produce large movement and should be created from light weight materials. CT Arm totally weighted 21kg and has a total length 120cm. The 120cm trunk-like arm robot constructed from seven segments that arrange in parallel way with a soft gripper placed at the end of the arm.
